The trap of technology-first thinking

Most agricultural technology fails not because the engineering is weak, but because it answers a question no grower was asking. A sensor that measures something no one acts on. A dashboard that adds work instead of removing it.

At CultivX, we invert the order.

Problem first

We begin by understanding what growers actually struggle with — the manual, expensive, error-prone reality of a working farm. Only once the problem is clear do we ask which technology fits: hardware, software, AI, automation, or a combination.

The problem defines the tool. Not the other way around.

What this looks like in practice

  • Map the current workaround and where it breaks
  • Quantify the time, cost and risk a solution removes
  • Choose the minimum technology that solves it
  • Build for deployment, not demos

This discipline is unglamorous. It is also how we intend to build things that get used.
